Open Door
Ok, since Mr. Tiger Woods (aka “E”) is officially on the DL and Mr. Phil Mickelson is starting to pick and choose his events almost as selectively as E, the door is wide open for someone new to walk through and start a new legacy at the top of the PGA. Unfortunately, nobody has really stepped up to the challenge. After winning the Honda back in March, I thought Ernie Els was going to make his long-awaited comeback. I guess we’ll still have to wait a bit for that. So, the big question now is who will it be? Who will rise to the challenge and take advantage of this great opportunity to forever transform their golf career, their life, & their legacy? Obviously, only time will tell, but here is my prediction:
Stewart Cink. Yes, I know he hasn’t won a tournament since 2004. But having 6 top 10 finishes in 11 starts (including 2 at second place and 2 at third place) is enough to convince me that this guy has the potential to really start popping off some wins. He is certainly among, if not the only elite currently competing. In fact, it would only take a couple of wins to make this his best year ever on the tour. And if one of those wins comes at a major, he would be the hands-down choice for PGA Player of the Year. Watch out PGA, because Mr. Cink is standing in that open doorway, ready to step on through. And frankly, I hope he does.
