Fantasy Best Ball Foursome for the Memorial

Published by lovegolf at 10:38 am under Fantasy, PGA Edit This

It’s Thursday, which means two things. First, another PGA event has begun (woohoo!) and second, it is time for me to reveal my fantasy foursome, aka the guys on my “don’t-cheer-against” list. This week, I have an ABC list ranked, coincidentally, both Alphabetically and by Market Value:

Robert Allenby: Here is a guy who is playing really good golf but not getting the wins. In a best ball format, the most critical aspect is that he makes the cut because it is a lot easier to make a birdie from the rough than it is from the tarmac. Allenby has only missed one cut so far in 14 tournaments and has a relatively low average score. He is a good pick any time.

Briny Baird: This is the first time I have gone with Briny Baird, so I guess you could say he is my “limb” pick of the week. At the same time, Briny has been just as consistent as Mr. Allenby in making 14 cuts in 16 tournaments played. Although slightly less “famous” than Allenby, Briny ranks higher on the money list (due to one extra made cut, I’m sure) and has a lower average score. Comparatively, he is the value pick because his Market Value is lower than Robert’s. Aside from the lack of wins, I can’t see why he is considered a “lesser” pick, which is probably why I have finally decided to pick him up (that and I am tired of wishing I had him).

Bart Bryant: This is the second week in a row that I have picked Bart for my fantasy foursome. I was pleased with his performance last week as it did not disappoint (unlike Nicholas Thompson). If the word “Consistency” could somehow start with the letter “B,” it would be the most suitable middle name for Bart. Even without the “B,” I think it still fits.

Daniel Chopra: I have been watching Daniel for a few weeks now and really believe he is underrated. Although he has only made 10 of 16 cuts, he has a win under his belt this season and has been playing relatively well as of late. I am hoping that he can return to his winning form this week for a surprise upset at this great tournament.

On the bench: Every week, I have the option of placing a golfer on the bench for the week. Essentially, I am reserving the golfer at a lower market value than he is currently at. This week, I put Phil Mickelson on the bench due to his jump in MV. Although I don’t believe he is going to win this week, I do think that his MV will continue to rise as we start looking at the potential showdown of Tiger & Phil at the U.S. Open (yes, I know I just added to the “hype” that I griped about earler). I think he will be a better pick in a couple of weeks and this way I get to keep him at a lower MV!
